Candidate ratings by race

This year CAPE invited candidates in a select group of key races to participate in our ratings process by filling out a questionnaire, which can be found here.

CAPE rates candidates on a 5-star scale based on their positions. You can find an explanation of the ratings and what they mean here.

Please note all candidates who were rated were invited to submit a questionnaire. If any candidates below did not submit a questionnaire, all available public campaign materials - including websites, social media accounts, and news interviews - were used to inform their score.

To find out which legislative district you live in, you can use this tool from the Washington State Legislature website.

5th Legislative District

In the 5th LD voters must decide between a sequel with middle-out marvel Lisa Callan or tuning in for a trickle-down rerun of Chad Magendanz. We've seen how that show ends. Lisa will prioritize the interests of working- and middle-class families over big businesses.

26th Legislative District

On the western shores of Puget Sound, a middle-out hero stands in the fog. It's Emily Randall, a true defender of working families & the last bastion against the forces of the trickle-down Temple of Doom in the 26th LD. The stakes couldn't be higher, the choice couldn't be clearer.

27th Legislative District

In the 27th LD, Yasmin Trudeau aced our civic superhero test with a PERFECT SCORE, wowing us with her expert understanding of where prosperity comes from (hint: from the middle out) and how the economy actually works. Yasmin continues to be the hero Tacoma needs AND deserves.

30th Legislative District

The bad trickle-down superZERO reboots keep coming. But in the 30th LD, we're confident voters will choose the better franchise: another term with Claire Wilson, a leader in the battle for growing prosperity and our economy from the middle out, and one of our PERFECT SCORE superheroes.

31st Legislative District

From his secret HQ on the north side of Rainier, Chris Vance is set to vanquish the titan of trickle-down himself, the true Bizarro to our civic superheroes. Based on his CAPE test, we really think Chris has what it takes to join our forces and become a middle-out champion.

34th Legislative District

Swooping in (on a newly reopened bridge) from the 34th Legislative District are two would-be civic superheroes, but we give Emily Alvarado a slight lead in this race to be the CAPE'd crusader for West Seattle, White Center and Vashon. Emily understands that everyday people and working families - not CEOs - are our community's true job creators.

36th Legislative District

We love when two great candidates like Julia Reed & Jeff Manson go head-to-head. Both passed our civic superhero test with flying colors. But with a PERFECT SCORE, Julia pulls ahead in this contest. She'll be a hero for working- and middle-class families in District 36.

37th Legislative District

The good citizens of District 37 can rest easy knowing that both Emijah Smith and Chipalo Street would serve as sworn defenders of working families. We do. But as one of our star candidates with a PERFECT SCORE, we give Emijah a lead in this contest to become the next civic superhero.

38th Legislative District

We think Julio Cortes is the middle-out candidate to beat in the other House race in Everett, running rings around his opponent with better policies that invest in the working class and create a more prosperous economy from the middle out.

Up in Everett the choice is clear. Mary Fosse is CAPE's uncontested champion for prosperity, justice, and growing the economy from the middle out for working- and middle-class families in District 38. She’s a middle-out superhero, not a trickle-down zero like her opponent.

44th Legislative District

This year the trickle-downers seem to be all about the bad villain reboots nobody asked for, like this matchup of a 0-star former legislator against Brandy Donaghy, a real Civic Superhero and sworn defender of District 44. Brandy is a true champion of middle-out economic growth.

46th Legislative District

FIRST UP: In the 46th Legislative District, a head-to-head of two would-be CAPEd crusaders who both passed our civic superhero test with PERFECT SCORES. Both Darya Farivar & Lelach Rave know what it takes to create a thriving, inclusive economy from the middle-out. No trickle-down villain in this race!

47th Legislative District

We were pleased to add both Shukri Olow and Chris Stearns to our legion of would-be civic superheroes, but with a PERFECT SCORE we undoubtedly think Shukri has the lead in her quest to don the CAPE and champion the interests of working- and middle-class families in District 47.

Spokane County Commission

In one of the Spokane County Commission races, Amber Waldref soars as a civic superhero, facing off against a trickle-down zero in District 2. We know Amber will be a true champion for working families, fighting for policies that grow the economy from the middle out.

In the east, a rising civic superhero faces off against the scarecrow of Spokane's Trickle-Down Legion of Doom himself. Maggie Yates will defend the interests of middle-class people in Spokane County Commission D5 and help build a more thriving economy from the middle-out.
